Welcome to the Wappinger Walkers Club new web site, as of December 21, 2008. We are happy to have found webs.com which has given us the oppportunity to create our own free web page.
Here is a very short history of the beginning of the Wappinger Walkers Club founded by Florence Graff in 1997.
Our home base is located in the beautiful Hudson Valley Region of New York State, situated in Wappinger Falls and is open to women and men of all ages. The Hudson Valley offers fabulous trail walks located in many fine historic estates, State parks, and lands preserved and owned by Scenic Hudson, and trail walks located in county and town parks. Members have enjoyed traversing the quiet woodlands, streams, wetlands, and adjacent farm lands. We have walked along the paths that abut the Hudson River and delight in the panoramic views of the Catskill Mountains. We have gone across the river and visited Minnewaska State Park, Mohonk Preserve, Bear Mountain, West Point, Esopus Meadows Point Preserve and many others. Our walkers have been rewarded with seeing deer, white swans, ducks and the Blue Heron. Each walk is a wonderful experience in nature's solitude and the enjoyment of friendly people. Walks last from 1 to 2 hours, and we try and keep the driving time to the area not more than 45 minutes. You can also bring your well-behaved dog, on a leash, to those areas which allow dogs.
Florence has played tennis since she was 15, but found, that as she grew older, and played less tennis, she wanted to explore a second activity to make up for less tennis time. Walking was the answer, and that's how it all came about.
LIST OF OUR PAST WALKS
Our walks usually begin the first week of March of the new year, and end about one week before Thanksgiving. Each month a new schedule of walks is placed on this site.
Membership fee is $8.00 per member - per year, which covers monthly mailing of post cards (indicating the walking schedule for that month), printing charges, cost of cardstock, labels and postage. You will also receive my Newsletter, printed three times a year, having color photos of past walks, interesting environmental articles and "Did You Know" area. I also print out fliers of our walks and place them at the Town of Wappinger Town Hall, the Grinnel Library and at Meadowbrook Farm. I also give a copy of the flier to the Senior Citizens Director to place in their newsletter, send out the schedule to the Southern Dutchess News, the Poughkeepsie Journal and to Cablevision.
Checks must be made out to Florence Graff. Mail to: Florence Graff, 52 All Angels Hill Road, Wappinger Falls, N.Y. 12590. Telephone contact is my office number - 845-298-7029.
